Creating an Acne Diet that Works for You

An acne diet is certainly an appealing idea. After all, who has not heard the saying that chocolate gives you pimples? We almost all have. If you think about it its not so far-fetched that by watching your diet you could prevent acne.

However, an acne diet can be hard to create for a large number of people. This type of diet is highly personal since is is based on each individual’s response to foods. There are rules to follow, but progress is usually by trial and error. Make sure you are keeping an eye on your skin. Keep a journal. You might even try taking pictures with your cameral a few times a week. When your skin clears, continue on the diet you were on at the time.

The following guidelines can help get you started on an acne diet:

1. Up your intake of protein. Many dermatologists think that protein intake is related to clear skin. They believe this because protein has an enzyme in it that limits oil production. Oily skin is very vulnerable to breakouts.

2. Don’t eat carbs. Don’t cut yourself off completely. But you should keep them limited to about 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates have compounds in them that can stimulate oil production. This is why junk food has a reputation for causing acne. In reality, junk food is high in carbs.

3. Consume green tea. If possible, drink the real stuff. Brewing the green tea is the best way to drink it. But, if you really don’t like it, the natural green tea drinks will work. Green tea will restrain the production of androgen. Breakouts have been known to be caused by a hormone called androgen.

4. You must restrict the amount of salt you take in. Salt usually contains iodine. Which is why table salt is sometimes called “iodized salt.” Iodine can be one of the biggest inflammatory agents in people with acne.

You must watch your diet and what you put on your face. If you have acne you are already aware of what ingredients are in your facial products. Natural and organic skin care lines are the best acne prone skin. These are least likely to cause a breakout. You might want to start buying mineral makeup, that is if you wear makeup. Dermatologists are under the belief that mineral makeup can fully help alleviate your acne problems while enhancing the results of your acne diet.
